Silvia Penati

Role

Full Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Milan-Bicocca

Bio

A graduate and PhD in Physics from the University of Milan, she conducted postdoctoral research in the United States at Brandeis University before returning to Italy. Since 2000, she has been with the University of Milano-Bicocca, where she has been a full professor of Theoretical Physics since 2017. An active promoter of gender equality in STEM research, she is a member of the steering board of the European GenHET network based at CERN and led the European COST project "The String Theory Universe." She coordinated the TIER-Towards an Inclusive Evaluation of Research working group within CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment). She is currently president of the Comitato Unico di Garanzia (CUG) of the University of Milano-Bicocca.

His studies in theoretical physics and fundamental interactions range from string theory to quantum mechanics and Einstein's relativity. In particular, he investigates the interacting dynamics of particles with arbitrary spin, quantum field theory , and supersymmetry , exploring the properties of duality and integrable systems in two dimensions.

Her main results concern supersymmetric gauge theories , the holographic principle, and the quantum description of gravity for black hole physics. She has authored over 100 publications in high-impact international journals and is actively involved in editorial review and scientific dissemination.
