Rosa Maria Montereali

Role

Head of the Micro and Nanostructures for Photonics Laboratory at the ENEA Research Center in Frascati

Bio

After graduating in Physics in 1984 from the University of Rome "La Sapienza", she joined the Research Division at Telespazio SpA for Space Telecommunications in Rome. Since 1988, she has been a researcher at the ENEA Research Center in Frascati (RM), where since 2010 she has been head of the Micro- and Nanostructures for Photonics Laboratory. In August 2008, she was a Visiting Researcher at the Federal Technological University of Paraná, Brazil. In 2013, she obtained the national scientific qualification for the role of Full Professor in Experimental Physics of Matter.

Rosa Maria Montereali specializes in investigating the optical properties of point defects in insulating materials for the creation of optical microdevices, miniaturized light sources and solid-state lasers for photonics, and innovative optically readable radiation detectors for X-ray imaging and dosimetry, applied in the scientific, medical, and nuclear fields.

She participates in the spectroscopic investigation of new photoluminescent materials in the form of crystals, nanoscale powders, metallic colloids, and thin films of low-molecular-weight organic semiconductors, successfully used for the production of light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) in compact and efficient resonator configurations—vertical optical microcavities, planar waveguides, etc.—in collaboration with Italian and foreign universities, research institutions, and industries, as part of regional, national, and European projects. She is co-inventor of several national and international patents.
