Paola Prete

Expert in condensed matter physics, semiconductor synthesis technologies, nanotechnologies, photonics, quantum technologies, and photovoltaics.

Role

Associate Professor in the SSD PHYS-03/A - Experimental Physics of Matter and Applications at the Department of Innovation Engineering of the University of Salento.

Bio

A graduate in Physics from the University of Lecce and a PhD in Physics from the University of Bari, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the United Kingdom at the North East Wales Institute (Glyndŵr University). She was a Senior Researcher at the CNR-IMM in Lecce.

Her scientific activity focuses on the epitaxial synthesis and characterization of compound semiconductors, with a particular focus on the study of their structural and optical properties. An expert in bottom-up synthesis and crystallography techniques, she develops quasi-1D nanostructures (nanowires) and innovative nanomaterials , with a particular focus on the van der Waals growth of graphene and new two-dimensional materials .

Her research applies nanotechnology to the renewable energy sector, designing third-generation photovoltaic solar cells based on nanowires, as well as developing devices for nanoelectronics and nanophotonics . Author of over 130 scientific publications, she is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology, awarded by the Italian Association of Crystallography (AIC), and an expert evaluator for MIMIT.
