Bio
After graduating in Physics from the University of Milan, Laura Cadonati continued her education at Princeton University, where she obtained a master's degree in 1998 and a PhD in Physics in 2001. From the same year, she became a postdoctoral associate at Princeton University, and from 2002 to 2004 at MIT, where she became a research scientist in 2005 and remained there until 2007.
In 2007, she became an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an associate professor there in 2012. In 2014, she was a visiting scholar at Cardiff University. Since 2015, she has been at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she is currently a full professor and associate dean for research.
His research focuses on gravitational waves , with a particular focus on the detection, characterization, and interpretation of short-lived signals produced by astrophysical events such as supernova core collapses and black hole collisions. Since 2002, he has been a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and participated in the research that confirmed the existence of gravitational waves observed by LIGO, in collaboration with Virgo.
Her scientific work focuses on gravitational-wave astrophysics and astroparticle physics. She also worked on the detection of solar neutrinos with the Borexino experiment until 2013 and on the direct search for dark matter with DarkSide until 2014. She is the author of numerous scientific publications.
