Role
Associate Professor of Experimental Physics of Fundamental Interactions at the University of Cagliari and at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics.
Bio
After graduating in Physics from the University of Cagliari in 1999 and earning a PhD from the University of Oxford in 2003, she continued her studies with postdoctoral fellows in Oxford and Liverpool. From 2000 to 2006, she worked as a scientific associate at Fermilab in Chicago. She returned to Italy in 2007 as a researcher at the INFN and subsequently at the University of Cagliari, where she collaborated with the CERN laboratory in Geneva. In 2015, she was awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant at the CNRS in Orsay (Paris), conducted in parallel with her visiting professorship at Cambridge (2016). She is a professor of physics in Cagliari and an INFN associate.
Specializing in particle physics and the study of the physics of nuclei and heavy ions, she coordinates a research group between Cagliari and Orsay working on the LHCb experiment at CERN . Her research in high-energy physics has included measuring the cross section of the W and Z bosons at the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF), mass limits on the supersymmetric particles chargino and neutralino, and the study of associated quarkonia states. Since 2015, she has pioneered new lines of research on the precision measurements of quark-gluon plasma at high velocities using the LHCb experiment at the LHC particle accelerator at CERN.
Author of hundreds of articles published in leading international scientific journals, she serves as a reviewer for the Journal of High Energy Physics and the European Physical Journal. Winner of the PPARC Fellowship (2005) and a €1.9 million ERC grant, as well as other national and international grants, she has been part of the AccademiaNet network since 2016 and is included in the list of Top Italian Scientists.
