Role
Full Professor of Mathematics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
Bio
After graduating in Mathematics from Sapienza University of Rome, Alessandra Celletti earned her PhD in Mathematics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1989. She was a tenured researcher at the University of L'Aquila until 1999, then became an associate professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Since 2013, she has been a full professor at the same university.
From 2015 to 2018, she served as Director of the Department of Mathematics at Tor Vergata University, and from 2010 to 2020, she coordinated the Master's Degree in Space Science and Technology. In 2019, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Italian Space Agency, a role she held until February 2020. Since April 2020, she has been on the ANVUR Board of Directors, serving as Vice President until 2026.
His research interests include celestial mechanics, dynamical systems, interplanetary trajectories, and space debris dynamics. He studies natural and artificial objects in the solar system, focusing on their orbits, resonances, stability, and chaos.
He chaired the Italian Society of Celestial Mechanics and Astrodynamics from 2001 to 2013, and the A4 Committee on Celestial Mechanics of the International Astronomical Union from 2018 to 2021. From 2016 to 2026, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy. In 2023, he received the Brouwer Career Award from the Division on Dynamical Astronomy of the American Astronomical Society for his contributions to KAM theory and the study of the regular and chaotic dynamics of Earth's satellites and space debris. In 2025, he received the Pianeta Galileo Award from the Tuscany Region for his studies on celestial mechanics and his commitment to scientific dissemination with a broad interdisciplinary focus. Asteroid 2005 DJ1, number 117539, bears his name.
