Role
CO2M Operations Preparation Manager at EUMETSAT
Bio
Stefania Tarquini is an aerospace engineer specializing in satellite operations and works at EUMETSAT, where she is currently the Operations Preparation Manager for the Copernicus CO2 Monitoring (CO2M) mission .
Graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan in Aerospace Engineering (2010) and in Space Engineering (2012), she completed her master's thesis at the Pennsylvania State University and an internship at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd in the field of space propulsion.
He began his career in Darmstadt as a Spacecraft Controller for the Meteosat fleet, then joined EUMETSAT in 2015 as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer for the Metop satellites. In 2018, he played a leading role in the launch and in-orbit verification of Metop-C, coordinating EUMETSAT activities and interfaces with ESA. He subsequently managed the Metop-A End-of-Life project, which was successfully concluded in 2021 with the first deorbiting of a low-Earth orbit satellite carried out by EUMETSAT.
Since 2021, Stefania has coordinated the preparation of satellite operations for CO2M , a new constellation scheduled for launch starting in late 2027 and operated by EUMETSAT as part of the Copernicus programme. Her work includes the development, validation, and progressive testing of the mission's operational concepts, procedures, and systems, including tests carried out on the actual satellite attached to the EUMETSAT ground segment. She coordinates a large multidisciplinary team that includes satellite operations, flight dynamics, mission control, planning, data processing, system operations, ground stations, and performance monitoring.
